South Asian Network on Economic Modeling (SANEM) organized the 7th SANEM Annual Economists’ Conference (SAEC) 2024 on the broad theme of “New Frontiers in Development and Emerging Dynamics” from 23 to 25 February 2024. The hybrid conference was held both at the BRAC Centre Inn, Mohakhali, Dhaka, and Zoom. United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Bangladesh and the Australian High Commission in Bangladesh were the partners of this event.
The three-day conference facilitated breakout sessions on different themes, panel discussions, a special lecture, a budding economists’ session and a conference keynote session. The conference keynote speech was delivered by Professor Jean-Louis Arcand, President of the Global Development Network (GDN).
The conference hosted 16 breakout sessions featuring 64 papers on growth and development, regional integration, the future of work, sustainable climate solutions, poverty and inequality, gender equality, food security, social protection, and energy security. In total 64 Participants from 11 countries joined the 3-day conference. Participants from India, Sri Lanka and Nepal attended the conference in person. Other participants from the USA, UK, Russia, Pakistan, Senegal, Cameroon, and the Netherlands participated virtually in the hybrid conference. In total 32 eminent economists, academicians and professionals served as the Chairs and Discussants of the breakout sessions. The panel discussions on the pressing issues were graced by eminent economists, academicians and experts. Over 200 renowned academicians, researchers, policy advocates, practitioners, students, and journalists from around the world attended the conference both in person and online. Following the footsteps of the previous years, the 7th SAEC 2024 brought enthusiastic economic minds from home and abroad under a common platform, providing them an opportunity to discuss the contemporary issues of economics and promote quality economic research.
